Colombian coffee is a mountain-grown arabica, cultivated on the slopes of the Andes, hand-picked and washed, which gives it a smooth, balanced flavor. The best-known coffee regions are the Coffee Axis (Eje Cafetero), Antioquia, Huila, Nariño and Cauca. In Colombia, you order a black coffee as a “tinto.” At Tequendama Moments, Colombian coffee takes center stage.

Why it's so well known
It's grown at altitude, on small farms, and the beans are hand-picked when ripe. Then they're washed to remove the pulp before drying. That process gives a clean coffee with good acidity and medium body. Colombia's Coffee Cultural Landscape has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011.
How it's drunk in Colombia
- Tinto: a black coffee, often in a small cup and at any time of day.
- Perico or pintado: coffee with a splash of milk.
- With something to eat: with pandebono, almojábana or arepa, at breakfast or mid-afternoon.
